Shen
Xiaonan (born 10/12/1964) is a dynamic young contemporary Chinese
sculptor whose own professional career as a freelance artist parallels
his deep commitment to an academic path. He creates reliefs, as well as monumental
sculpture and smaller scale sculpture in steel, bronze, stone, wood and
resin.
He not only teaches advanced
sculpture students at the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute in Chongqing but
also acts as a Master Degree course leader and coordinator within the
contemporary
Chinese sculpture department of this excellent fine arts institution,
one of the best five such fine arts schools in China today.
Shen Xiaonan (the latter pronounced "shiaonan) has exhibited his
sculptures nationally, executed over 100 public and corporate sculpture
commissions, participated in international sculpture events in China
and abroad, as well as taking up a two month residency at the
Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris in the spring of 2002.
He currently lives with his daughter Yezi
and wife Zhang Yaxi
(also a sculptor) in a roomy appartment with a rooftop garden and small home studio
at the top of the teachers building within the grounds of the campus in
Chongqing.
Besides his home studio he also has a larger studio at the Tank Loft Contemporary Arts Center.
